Our central question is whether a biologically derived combination of compost-associated microorganisms, humic substances and other bioactive compounds can improve plant performance in sustainable growing systems — and, if so, which components or interactions are responsible.

BioCharge Britain separates preliminary observations, independent analytical evidence and controlled experimental results. The programme is designed to strengthen that evidence chain over time.

Independent DNA metabarcodingHistorical source-compost testing by Fera Science identified substantial and compositionally distinct bacterial and fungal communities. Reported “taxa” are sequence variants, not confirmed species counts.
Controlled horticultural researchProposed work includes crop growth, water use, nutrient uptake, biochemical composition and appropriate comparator treatments.
Nursery replicationStandardised commercial trials can test whether effects persist across plant types, sites and operating conditions.
Public participationGarden observations can generate large-scale exploratory data, but are interpreted separately from controlled laboratory or nursery experiments.

What we share — and what we protect.

We share the research questions, finished treatment information needed to run a trial, experimental design, measurements and outcomes.

We do not publish proprietary feedstock rules, process conditions, extraction methods, production yields, batch controls or other enabling manufacturing know-how.

The public should be able to understand the evidence without being given the recipe.
